Bridge Benefit Raises Funds for Education Programs at Eisenhower Presidential Library

The Abilene American Contract Bridge League Club and the Eisenhower Foundation partnered to hold the third annual Dwight D. Eisenhower Bridge Benefit on July 30. The game and additional donations raised $1,394 to benefit IKEducation, the Foundation's K-12 program that provides programs free of charge at the Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home. In addition, proceeds from the event will be used to develop a new initiative - teaching bridge at after school programs.

A record 86 people played in the beautiful Eisenhower Presidential Library Courtyard.

Partners Ardy Alexander, Hutchinson, Kansas, and Beverly Gochis, Wichita, Kansas, were awarded the traveling trophy for winning the overall game with a score of 66.22%.

The Eisenhower Bridge Benefit was created to pique people's interest in the incredibly challenging and rewarding game of duplicate bridge, while promoting the extraordinary legacy of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Ike earned the unofficial nicknames of 'Bridge Player in Chief' and 'The Patron President of Bridge Players' over the 56 years he played the game.

The Abilene ACBL and the Eisenhower Foundation are thrilled this has become a tradition and look forward to awarding the Dwight D. Eisenhower Bridge Benefit traveling trophy to the winning team next summer. Next year's event will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the Eisenhower Presidential Library Courtyard.
