Vintage Base Ball Game is Aug. 6 at Ted Power Field

 

Eisenhower Presidential Library  sponsors Victorian era base ball game

 A vintage base ball game will be played Saturday, Aug. 6 at 1:00 p.m. The game is sponsored by the Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home and in the past has been played on the grounds of the Library. New this year, the game will be played at Ted Power Field, Eisenhower Park, during the Central Kansas Free Fair.

Fair-goers can head over to Ted Power Field to catch the action as the "Abilene Iron Cutters" face the "Wichita Bull Stockings" of the Cowtown Vintage Base Ball Club. The players don uniforms from the 1860s and play with the kind of equipment used in that era. The event is free and open to the public.

The game is played using base ball rules from the Victorian era, which are quite different from today's game. For example, outfielders can catch the ball on one bounce for an out and base stealing and sliding are prohibited. Crowd participation is highly encouraged and often impacts the rulings on the field.
 

"This is a fun event, recreating the game from a bygone era," said Tim Rives, Acting Director, Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. "We encourage individuals and families to take advantage of this great 'Americana' experience.
